Information about the Cannabis Test

Advantages of the Cannabis Test

Cannabis test

A blood test is considered a reliable method to detect the residues of marijuana and cannabis. The long-lasting metabolites are also analysed. This is how you find out whether traces of cannabis can still be detected in your body.

Take your sample for the cerascreen® Cannabis Test discreetly and conveniently in the comfort of your own home. The test is a blood test: a small finger prick is enough to collect the blood needed for the specialised laboratory, where your sample is analysed.

Benefit from our expertise: cerascreen® is the market leader for send-in home test kits in Europe, with eight years of experience in developing and analysing tests. We have developed more than 50 approved send-in test kits (medical devices), analyse around 150,000 samples annually and serve 20 countries.

Your results report

results report example

As soon as your sample has been analysed, you will be able to view your individual results report in the My cerascreen® mobile app or by logging in on our website, where you can also print the report.

The results report breaks down the measured values from the laboratory analysis. You will find out whether THC, cannabidiol or their metabolites were detected in your blood and, if so, in what concentration.

Frequently asked questions about the Cannabis Test

  • How does the Cannabis Test work?

For the Cannabis Test, you take a small blood sample from your fingertip with a lancet. Only a few drops of blood are needed for this. Collect the drops on a dry blood card – this way, you really only have to take very little blood, and the sample will keep for a longer time.

The sample is sent free of charge to a specialised medical laboratory via a return envelope. The laboratory analyses your blood sample for traces of six substances.

After the analysis, you will receive a notification, and you will be able to access the results report via logging in to your account on our website or the My cerascreen® app.

  • When should I take the Cannabis Test?

The cerascreen® Cannabis Test can detect substances that you have taken in the 48 hours before the sample was taken. You should therefore take the test if you want to have traces of marajuana or cannabis from the last two days detected.

Please note: Keep a Cannabis Test handy at home. This way, you can take a sample quickly when you need to.

  • What do the results of the Cannabis Test tell me?

The Cannabis Test results report will tell you for each of the six active substances and metabolites of cannabis tested whether it was detected or not.

If it was detected, you will also find out the measured concentration in nanogrammes per millilitre of blood (ng/ml).

  • Why is it a blood test and not a urine test?

The cerascreen® Cannabis Test is designed to provide the most reliable measurement results possible. A blood test is best suited for this.

The blood test, as we perform it, is also used by authorities to test for drug use. For example, the blood tests are used to confirm a positive urine rapid test in a police check by laboratory diagnostics.

  • Which substances does the Cannabis Test screen for?

The cerascreen® Cannabis Test measures a total of six different substances: tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD) and two metabolites each.

    • Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the psychoactive ingredient of the cannabis plant. In the body, it is usually broken down into various metabolites after a few hours.
    • THC-OH and THC-COOH are metabolites of THC.
    • THC-COOH is also called THC-carboxylic acid or carboxy-THC. This metabolite can be detected for a relatively long time. If it is present in higher amounts, this is considered an indication of regular cannabis use.
    • Cannabidiol (CBD) is the active ingredient of the cannabis plant, which is said to have a relaxing effect. Buying and consuming CBD is legal, unlike THC.
    • CBD-OH and CBD-COOH are metabolites of CBD.
  • For whom is the test not suitable?

The Cannabis Test is not suitable for or is only suitable to a limited extent for certain groups of people:

    • People with infectious diseases, such as hepatitis and HIV, are not allowed to take the Cannabis Test.
    • People with haemophilia should not take the blood test.
    • The Cannabis Test is not suitable for children under 18 years of age.

The test is not intended for diagnosing illness. For example, if you suspect you are suffering from drug or substance addiction, seek medical advice.
